Frequently Asked Questions

(1)    How long has SSA been in business?

This year we celebrate 31 years of service (1979-2010).

(2)    What is your fee structure?

Consider that a qualified safety/risk management director could cost your firm from $60K to $80K or more per year.  That is a “continuing expense” for your firm – i.e. regardless of whether that person is needed at all times.  Contrast that with a consulting arrangement costing a fraction of an in-house person.  SSA is a “flexible resource” that is used only when needed.  Since we work with multiple clients in multiple disciplines (construction, industry, healthcare), we offer a perspective and level of experience that an in-house person cannot match.

In considering fees, keep in mind the damage to company reputation, compensatory awards, possible punitive awards and OSHA citations that can stem from accidents.

Note to commercial insurance agents: Our fees are significantly lower than similar services offered by carriers and brokers.

(3)    How will I know the fee structure for my firm?

After assessing a prospective client’s operations, loss exposures, safety activities, and specific needs, a proposal is submitted.  The fee structure is outlined in the proposal.

(4)    Is a contract required?

No.  Service is always provided on an informal verbal agreement.  The client can terminate the service at any time and for any reason.

(5)    What about references?

We would be happy to provide upon request.

(6)    What size company is the best fit for your services?

SSA works with clients having as few as 10 employees up to firms with over 5000 employees.  The services are tailored to fit the unique needs of each individual client.

(7)    What geographic area do you cover?

Most of our work is in the Carolinas.  However, we travel wherever needed.  Work has been conducted in FL, GA, AL, LA, MI, WVA, VA, TN, MS, MD, PA, RI, CT, NH, ME, CA and WA.

(8)    We have our own safety director – how could SSA benefit our firm?

You can derive multiple benefits by working with SSA.  A large percentage of our clients have safety directors and some even have full safety/risk management departments.  SSA professionals will work with your safety director to insure that your firm benefits fully from the broad expertise we’ve developed working with multiple clients in multiple disciplines.

(9)    Do you market commercial insurance?

No.  However, we can refer you to reputable agents and brokers who are experienced in utilizing our services to secure favorable renewal pricing.  With our extensive backgrounds in commercial insurance, we know how to talk to insurance carrier underwriters and loss control personnel.  We know how to resolve issues related to insurance carrier recommendations; we can present the safety and claims control aspects of your firm in a favorable light.
